Simon loves building models and Elaine loves arts-and-crafts. Don’t you think it’d be a great idea for them to build a model and do some arts-and-crafts while they are preparing for their wedding?
So for those readers who have been following our blog (by the way, you guys are our favourites! We love you!) to know that it took us a long time to purchase a banquet theme-kit (that we both like) and to wait for it to arrive — guess what, it has finally arrived! That evening we got home after work, we saw 4 huge boxes like the ones shown in the pictures below (+1 slimmer box) leaning against the walls when we opened the door, we were absolutely thrilled and opened them all right away!
Other than pre-cut cardboard pieces, we also found glue-guns, lightbulbs, rolls of tape, knives, etc. and a 16-page instructions!!! (We’ve made it a pdf for you to download from this link here if you are interested to help>> Background Instructions)
The materials in the boxes were quite neatly wrapped and we saw many, if not most of the pieces, were pre-cut with clear labels. We were told by the seller that it would take 6 people just about 3 hours to finish building the kit. Therefore, we gathered our friends to meet up in the afternoon and thought with 8 people, we’ll have the project finished before dinner.
Unfortunately, when our friends and us got together at Franky’s house a couple of weeks ago attempting the project, it didn’t seem quite as easy as it appeared! Many pieces aren’t pre-cut and the manual isn’t as clear as we thought it’d be.
There are three key parts to this theme:
- A Cinderlla’s Coach 8′2″ high x 11′ wide x 20″ deep
- A Stairway to the Dream Castle 5′ high x 8′4″ wide x 40″ deep
- Dream Sand Castle on a Stand 9′ high x 38″
(- the additional component would be the clusters of champagne and pearl balloons that are purchased separately and to be filled with air/helium on the day)
Not that we were slow, but the 8 of us spent the whole afternoon and evening diligently (without breaks!) to build just the coach and the stairway but weren’t quite finished with those two parts yet because they really are quite large and quite complicated!
We must say, this is by far the largest arts-and-crafts project/ model we’ve ever worked on!
Once again, we are blessed to have great friends like you guys to help us out with — Thank you Betty, Jacky, Tony, Vivian, Doreen and Crispin!
