“How’s You Wedding Preparation Coming Along?”

Whenever we meet up with family members and friends, each time we go online, or we are on the phone, it doesn’t matter if we are at work, at church, at the mall, or at night, at dawn, at sunset, we always hear the question — “How’s your wedding preparation coming along?”
We always smile and say, “Er…. we don’t know…”
We really don’t know where we are at.
Just when we think things are confirmed and taken care of, some mind-blogging issues relating to the matters would immediately push us into the energy-consuming, perplexing realm…

For example, we have asked Rev. Sam Chan to officiate at our wedding ceremony.  After a meeting and discussions, he has kindly agreed to do so.  Unfortunately, a retreat event that will be mandatory for Rev. Sam Chan to attend suddenly calls for his absence on our wedding day! Therefore, we asked Rev. Daniel Splett for help, whom immediately replied to us and let us know about his short mission trip to Dubai in October that will be conflicting with our wedding date! So now we are still searching for a pastor at the moment…

The moment we thought “the dress” is completely taken care of by our friend Billy, Billy was suddenly tied up with some work-related issues in China and could not make it to Hongkong in time to get the dress from the dress-maker (so the dress will catch the flight to come to Toronto).  Fortunately, my friend Cindy was kind enough to step into the process and tracked over to HK West to take my dress to the flight at HK East from her HK South home early in the morning on a Saturday.   I still haven’t received my dress yet, but thanks Billy and Cindy…

We finally finally came down to a decoration theme that we both like and were about to make the purchase for that decoration theme kit, but it was JUST sold out the moment I called!! Yet again, we have to pick another one that we both like, which is also “feasible” (in terms of having it assembled within the limited decoration time we will be allowed by the hotel)… then, we called again, happily placed the order, received the confirmation in email, thinking that all we have to do now is just to wait for it to arrive.   The next day, we received a call and said, “Sorry, the product that you have purchased would cause another US$289.09 more because you are outside of our shipping zone.” … OK, another US$289.09… Two days later, we received another call from the UPS and said, “Sorry, the product that you have purchased needs to be cleared by the Canadian Customs and requires a fee of $73.26.”… OK, another $73.26… we’re still waiting for the kit at the moment, or should we say,  more calls asking for $$$?!

After just about 4 weeks of discussions, we finally have finished consulting both sides of the families and decided on four evening gowns that we are going to purchase and wear on our wedding day.  If you have been reading along (thanks by the way!) and get to this paragraph, you are probably saying, “Oh, let me guess — you guys were told that one of the evening gowns is no longer available?” … Yes! You’ve got it right!  We were told that one of the gowns that we were about to buy has become unavailable! With my friend Billy’s help and a bunch of email/phone communications, the situation was resolved.  Now, I have received three of the gowns.  One is still on its way… and there are lots and lots of discussions of what and when I will be wearing in the evening (especially, there’s the question of rather or not “the wedding dress” and the Chinese gown that will be worn in the day will be worn again at night) … let’s hope Elaine won’t be spending the whole night in the bridal room changing!

So yes, do you get the idea? We don’t know if we’ve reached ”Square 2″ yet because we are often sent back to “Square 1″! … Er…
