The Evolution of Our Invitation

We would like to take the opportunity here to thank our friends Bond, Billy, and Cindy who helped us out tremendously through the different evolutionary stages of our invitation card design.
We were really excited about putting together a newspaper as our wedding “invitation card” in the beginning (notice the words “in the beginning”)…We envisioned that the newspaper will have both Chinese and English articles.  It will have some articles on our love story or our proposal story.  It will include lots of pictures, pictures from the past and our 6 sets of engagement pictures.  We will share with others how we prepared for our wedding diligently.  We may even include an article or two on Christianity and marriage written by our dad Bill.  Thanks Bond who kindly helped us out with sourcing newspaper printing materials and newspaper publishers during that time!

However, our mom Sim insisted that if we are to publish a newspaper as “invitation card”, she will not use our invitations but to print her own.  Therefore, after much debates, we have decided to settle for something “less creative”, like one of those 3D popup cards in this Hongkong store that I found online:

Cindy checked out invitation cards for us The invitation style that we were going to go with

We were all ready to order our cards from this store (the exact one as shown in the picture on the above right) until our friend Cindy visited the store and helped us check out the look and feel of their actual sample card.

After some debates again, we decided to take Cindy’s input into consideration and designed our own 3D popup cards.  We started to photoshop and modify our pictures, created a demo card, called the store in Hongkong long-distance many many times to confirm and reconfirm the file requirements and the specifications of the card.  We spent a lot of time drawing our own graphics for use in our card –

I started to hand-draw and design our own card

It took me many times before I came up with a satisfactory design

My many attempts to draw the map...

Of course, we have also checked out our local wedding invitation cards printers, like the one that our friend Terry’s mom owns.  She has great selections and offers highly competitive pricing! However, after much discussions, we thought they don’t look and feel or spell out ”Simon and Elaine” as much as the 3D cards that we prefer to go for.

I hope you like our invitation cards!
